Artist Biography

Matt Savaiko (b. 1965) is an emerging contemporary realist Artist, who paints in the classical tradition. He was born and raised near Red Bank, New Jersey, a quiet town settled just between the Beaches of Sea Bright, and the Horse country of Colts Neck.

From a very young age Matt was mentored in drawing, the arts, and composition by his sister, Lauren Savaiko, also a professionally accomplished artist.  Although fine art did not play a major role in Matt’s life as he grew up, he still enjoyed creating in all mediums.

While experimenting in all mediums Matt found oil paint to be the best thing next to sliced bread, and has been focused in Fine Art oil painting since. Thirsting for better understanding, Matt turned to Neil Carlin at the Brandywine Atelier to further his knowledge of this complex craft.  He uses a variety of techniques that include strong use of light and shade, bold color, contrasts, and abstract shapes. This captures the viewer and brings them into the scene, and makes it feel as if they can touch the objects d’art.

Matt finds countless inspirations in nature and everyday items. He finds it hard to drive with out seeing compositions all around; it may be a colorful sunrise, boldly shaped shadow or strong vertical contrasts of a line a trees for a landscape. Whatever the inspiration, Matt strives to capture it’s essence in his art.

Most recently Matt’s work has been accepted, and is showing in 2 prestigious Art Galleries:

The Hardcastle Gallery in Wilmington Delaware and The Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art in New Hope PA. In 2008 Matt won 2nd place in the CCArts Regional Fine Art Show in Delaware. Matt was also a Finalist in the Richeson Still life International Fine Art Competition and show in 2007 and 2008.

Matt can be found painting daily in Kennett Square Pennsylvania, where he lives with his beautiful wife and twin girls.
